Sweerin Spring Update
Well a few things have changed since
we last updated you all. Covid-19 is making a mark on our world, and it has
caused us all to step back and slowdown in many ways. Whether this virus
is as deadly as the media portrays or not; everyone is greatly affected by it.
Many of our governmental and medical authorities have worked diligently to help
find ways to flatten the curve, and many of us are trying to adhere to those
policies as best as we can.
As many of you know, we were planning
to return to Zambia at the Mission of Love Community Orphanage. We began the
fundraising process and shortly after, Covid-19 made its presence. Even though
our plans have been delayed and borders remain closed; we are still actively working on
preparing our hearts, and Melanie continues to set time aside to work on the
school project for the community school. Through it all, we can be confident
our God is faithful and we need to trust Him.
A couple months prior to
the virus outbreak, Melanie and I had a greater peace in our hearts as we
desired God’s timing for our departure. Maybe a week before quarantine, I began
to sing the old Gaither song, "They that wait upon the Lord shall
renew their strength". At the time I wasn't sure why this song came to my
mind, but as I look back, I see how God was preparing my heart to be patient.
Psalm 91 has been a highly referenced
scripture during this time, and one our family has read multiple times. I
encourage you all to read it too as it speaks to the Lord being our place of refuge.
Melanie has been repeating Psalm 61:2, “From the end of the
earth I will cry to You, When my heart is overwhelmed; Lead me to the rock that
is higher than I.” During this time of uncertainty, we can find rest in Him. In
a commentary I read on this passage, the author described how David was crying
out to God, and in God, David found his rest and shelter. David knew of God’s
grace and care, because of God’s faithfulness in the past. When we feel
overwhelmed by the daily changes, stresses, and uncertainty of the future, may
we also be found crying out to God. He is Our Rock, Our Firm Foundation. Without Him we
have nothing.
So far Zambia has seen very few cases
of the virus, so our friends and the community are doing well. Last year they
had a terrible drought, but this year they have received better rain so yields
should be higher. Hallelujah!
In closing, we are so thankful
we serve a living God who hears our prayers and loves us deeply. In Ephesians
3:19-21, Paul explains this love so well. 19 May you experience
the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will
be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.
20 Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish
infinitely more than we might ask or think. 21 Glory to him in the church and in Christ Jesus throughall generations forever and ever! Amen.
We cannot control the course of this pandemic, but we can allow God to minister to our fears, confusion, and trials. We pray that you can experience the fullness of God and may He bring an inner strength and peace to your hearts.
Blessings,
The Sweerin Family
