We made it to Zambia

We have made it to Zambia!! We are so thankful that during the 4 days of travel God was watching over us. We made every flight and our luggage made it here as well.  As we arrived at our new home, we discovered some electrical problems that resulted in the fridge and freezer being off for several days. Fortunately, we were able to save most of the items as the freezer was still cool. It quickly reminded us of how dependent we are and how so many things happen out of our control but always within God’s control.

This week has been spent getting settled in and adjusting to living in the bush. Jako and Amber have made us feel at home by preparing our room with anything we might need and giving us time to adjust. There are currently two other volunteers here helping out, Alyssa and Olivia. Alyssa has been here almost two years. During this time she got a preschool up and running for children in the orphanage and surrounding community. There are currently two classes with 30 children each. This week Melanie has been helping out with the school when possible, and spending time talking about the future primary school with Alyssa. Alyssa will be leaving in May, so it is good that we got here before we left so that information could be transferred more easily. Oliva has been working with the house moms and children in the orphanage. She is doing bible studies with them, and tutoring them in English and Math. Melanie has enjoyed getting to know them both, and appreciates their help as she gets readjusted to living out here.

For all of those who are anticipating what to buy for school supplies. Melanie is working with Alyssa to see what supplies can be bought here, and which ones are better to get from the States. There are many details that have to be addressed, but we will get the information out as soon as we can. Thank you all for your patience in this matter.

Nate has been working on vehicles with Jako. They rebuilt the rear-end of the Landrover, and replaced sway-bar end links on the Toyota Hilux. There have been a few other minor repairs, but those were the major ones. Jako currently has two men that help him with the daily tasks. Nate has been helping Thomas(one of the men who help Jako)  chop wood for the orphanage. We often keep ourselves occupied throughout the day without a problem. It has been good to see the all of the locals again. Most of them remember us and are excited to see us. All of the children in the orphanage have grown so much, and many of them have gotten better with their English. The older children are now going to school in town, and they seem to all be doing well and enjoy school.

We are thinking and praying for all of you. You are all deeply missed and we look forward to hearing back from you. For all of the Natalie followers…. She is doing great. She smiles at everyone which in turn puts a smile on their face. She is adjusting so well. She is sleeping good at night and enjoys her new pack’n play and toys.  We do spend a fair amount of time outside, which she loves looking at the trees, watching the children play, and enjoys the breeze on her face. She may be trying to teethe so that is bothering her at times, she also thinks her tongue and toes are pretty cool right now. We appreciate all your prayers during this transition for us. We continue to thank our God above for this wonderful opportunity.
